Hello fellow residents
Can anyone give me an opinion on the Hyperoptic broadband service please? I’m hoping to be able to cancel my 18 month BT contract on the back of a price hike but want to make sure it’s a good idea first.
Any thoughts or opinions folks? Be much appreciated…
Best wishes,
Denis.20 December 2017 at 12:09 PM #680MicheleKeymasterI am with Virgin – not really happy.

Have you had any responses to this? I am thinking of changing from BT and would be interested to know if you have changed and what the outcome has been.
Best Regards,
Geoff

The last 2-3 years, they have really upped their game and my download speed was increased to 150 from 90 or so without my asking for it and no price hike. Touch wood, it has been problem free for ages with one outage lasting a few hours at a weekend. I have no doubt that Hyperoptic competition has galvanised Virgin!!

I’ve now had Hyperoptic installed…and bar some teething issues in the first week, it appears to be working pretty well.
Having sued and won a case against Virgin in the past, they wouldn’t be at the top of my shopping list…
Deceptive, untrustworthy shower! ;-0Denis
21 December 2017 at 12:19 AM #688S CliffordParticipantIve been with Hyperoptic since April and I’m very happy with the service. The broadband and telephone package is good value in comparison to BT and Virgin, very helpful staff and the download speed is excellent.
14 January 2018 at 7:16 PM #711Amanda YorkParticipantDear All,
Thanks for this feed as we’re trying to switch to Hyperoptic since my housemates don’t have a good signal at the other end of the flat, despite having two Wifi boxes.
I have a question for Denis; would you be able to let me know why you sued Virgin? Reason I’m asking is that I am unable to get through to the team who cancels our contract… I go through the whole automated process, eventually go through to someone who puts me on hold. In December I was on the phone for an hour… just recently, half hour at a time. I have to call from my mobile and am self-employed and beginning to lose patience since 1. I’m unable to cancel our Virgin contract and 2. don’t have half hour spare at various times during the day and 3. my Vodafone mobile phone bill is almost double with all these calls to Virgin on hold.
So strange… can anyone help? I’m going to call Citizen’s Advice tomorrow as my flat mate tried on her mobile; same issue.
Thanks a lot.

I will give you a good initial tip….
Write them and simply state that you are taking your complaint to the Ombudsman. They HATE this, since there is a significant cost involved each time the OB is involved. You will almost certainly find that they become motivated at the mention…You might also look at

I did ‘threaten’ action over the phone and asked if there was another way to cancel rather than the phone and they said no.
I’m now compiling my mobile phone records to them and will indeed write to them as you have suggested.

15 January 2018 at 12:05 PM #715Denis MannParticipantHi Amanda
Lazy company with appalling customer service and an unsavoury bullying attitude toward it’s customers.
Compile your records and detail and-don’t threaten-go straight to the Ombudsman. You will at least get an honest unbiased decision.
Forget the phone/calling Virgin. You are wasting your time and playing directly into their hands…Denis
15 January 2018 at 12:45 PM #716Amanda YorkParticipantDear Denis,
Thanks for your support. It’s taking time as I have mobile phone records going back 2.5 years with zero assistance from Virgin and high mobile phone bills and time wasted to prove it.
I shall do as advised. It’s beyond me how they’re able to get away with such behaviour!! Nightmare.
Happy Monday folks.
